American Idol 10 – eight left and counting

By: Mark Gardner Davis

American Idol voters, you stink.

But first, the show.

Opening medely – fun, even James did okay on “The Letter.” I’m sure Paul found it hard to hold up a fist and scream, “Repazent!” when they finished the Skynyrd tune.

I’d never heard of Constantine Maroulis, who apparently was a season 4 contender, but when the camera moved up on this long haired microphone-gripper with a scarf tied to the mike stand in a shameless smooch to Steven Tyler, my douchebag radar went off like an air raid siren. He sang “Unchained Melody,” which was already a bit overdone, and he really overdid it; it came out burned on top like a pan of biscuits left in the oven five minutes too long. He seemed like a nice enough guy in the interview, but send me a warning when he approaches the stage next time.

Hey, I didn’t know you could say “shit” on network TV! I guess you can if your name is Iggy Pop. I’ve always loved this freak, though “Real Wild Child” is one of his weaker hit songs. Who knows, maybe he’s tired of singing “The Passenger.”

And then the bottom three.

Jacob, Stefano and Pia. What’s wrong with 2/3 of this picture?

Stefano’s had a good run and is certainly better than a lot of the people who’ve gotten cut (but not recently), but Jacob? Pia? They’re both top-echelon. Yeah, Jacob’s statement that if he was eliminated it was because America “Couldn’t look itself in the mirror” was pretty damn pompous, but you expect ego and attitude from people that talented. As long as he belts out the tunes like a champ, it’s a small crime. And Pia? Really?

And then the judgment came down. Pia is out.

I’m glad to see that the judges were all as totally floored by this judgment call as I was when I found out. It wasn’t hard at all to read the “WTF?” on Randy’s lips, and Jennifer looked like one of her own children had just fallen down a well. Mr. Cool Ryan Seacrest even seemed a bit disturbed. When asked, all three judges responded, well, as they should have. Absolutely confounded. Ms. Toscone herself was very well composed, no tears, all in order like a pro. I’m sure the waterworks came later, but she was ready for her final song which she threw down, as always, like a star. After it was over, that camera shot of Jennifer again, hands up, shaking her head in disbelief pretty much said it all.

I don’t live in the U.S. and therefore can’t vote in this contest, so I guess I have an excuse. In the long run, again, it’s just a game show, and of course Pia could have done her career worse than making it into the top nine of a high-profile TV show. She’ll be on the tour and no doubt she, like Scotty, could survive a cut and go one to a very successful career. We shall see.

The results show a few of the flaws in the voting system on this show.

I’ve heard a lot about the cute boy syndrome on the show, where young girls vote for whoever they think is the most dishy male singer. This explains the continued presence of both James and Stefano and to a lesser degree, Paul (who has some modicum of talent). Conversely, the same girls tend to be a bit catty with the female singers, so maybe someone like Pia, who is astonishingly beautiful and talented, is a bit too much competition for the little Heathers out there. The cushiony Lauren is maybe more acceptable… but then there’s Haley, so I dunno. Not a perfect theory.

Scotty, Lauren and Paul may have an extra layer of protection around them because they’re southerners. We have constituted a disproportionate number of Idol winners, because we tend to support our own and because, well, we take music seriously because it’s something we’re just damn good at. Deal with it, United Statesians.

I’d like to think it’s because of his talent, but maybe Jacob is now benefitting from being the only black contender left. It didn’t keep him out of the bottom three this week, however.

It hurts, though, to see such a talent step off the stage, but that’s what’s always going on here.

Pia darling? I’m a big fan. You’ve got tremendous charisma onstage, you’re beyond gorgeous and your voice makes me happy to be alive. You’re a star, baby. Don’t stop singing, whatever you do.

So it’s eight now.

American Idol voters? I beg you; next week SEND JAMES DURBIN HOME.

He has worn out his welcome for this international viewer.

The Story Behind Hip Hop Drum Beats

Posted by admin on 30th, 2011

The Story Behind Hip Hop Drum Beats

By: James Z. Robinson

Nowadays hip hop is more than just drum beats, producers also use baselines and melodies in order to make beats. But it all started with the drums, for which hip hop music is known the most. Disc jockeys used to sample and isolate drums from music tracks, mostly from soul and funk music, to make their own, new sound. This was popular in the 80's, when people gathered together on block parties and used to dance on these new drum beats. Later on, the Djs started to scratch, put instrument sounds and vocals on their beats. The result was a new music genre named hip hop.

The hip hop music went through a lot of changes, but the drums are still the heart of this genre. Even big producers still work with drum machines and MPCs, like Kanye West for example. And the result is very good! It's really amazing how something that simple can become and stay so popular and move so many people all around the globe! Now, rap artists come from everywhere, Germany, Russia or Japan…

Some people say hip hop is dead, or is going to die out soon. But I don't think this is true. It has become an integral part of the music industry and it will be that way. Every year new hip hop artists come on the scene, and they are as successful as the artists in every other genre. If you are fascinated about music, like me, and especially about hip hop, you want to be part of this movement!

Either you are a rapper, singer, producer or you want to do it all yourself, there's no better time to start making your own music than now! If you are rapping or singing, you need to practice, so you have your own style, and that's the most important part. Start with freestyling over different instrumental beats, and then, when you're ready to make your own song, look for beat selling pages, let's take „beats4tracks.com“ as an example, here you can listen to samples and buy the instrumentals for an accordingly low price. If you want to produce your own beats, you should look for a good and easy to use beat making software, DUBturbo or Fruity Loops for example. You might want to read my other articles on how to make your own beats.

Just try it out! Get yourself a free demo or software if you're not sure about paying money for a product, there's plenty good software out there. Feel the vibe and let it inspire you, it's really fun!

Bollywood Vows To Yeh Saali Zindagi

Bollywood Vows To Yeh Saali Zindagi

By: Srinjan Bhowmick

Well, quite frankly by now the whole Bollywood fraternity is well acquainted with Director Sudhir Mishra. After producing classics with the likes of Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Traffic Signal, the ace director is back with Yeh Saali Zindagi.

Talking about Sudhir Mishra, not many know the fact that Sudhir was the screenwriter of the cult classic comedy Jaane bhi Do Yaaro. The two time national award winner director has yet one more time given the masses exactly what they were waiting for. Yeh Saali Zindagi is basically a twisted romantic thriller film starring Irrfan Khan, Arunoday Singh, Chitrangda Singh and Aditi rao Hydari. The movie hit the theatres on the 4th of February 2011.

The movie gained a lot of attraction when the promos were out. There are numerous characters, sub- plots, voice-overs, flash-backs, which keeps you engrossed in the movie and intrigues more and more interest by the moment. The story kick starts with Arun (played by Irrfan Khan) and Kuldeep (played by Arunoday Singh), two gangsters who commit the biggest gaffe. They get their love life entangled with their illegal felony. When love and fun mixes up with life and gun hell breaks loose and thus emerges a guns and roses love story wherein everyone is trapped in a deceitful game of, love and violence.

So what exactly does the trick for this film? Frankly, it’s the killer script and some awe-inspiring dialogues that do the trick. The film gives you nostalgic sensation as if you are watching a Quentin Tarantino movie. The dialogues are wicked but at the same time leave an impact on the character as well as on your mind. Excellent demonstration of thug life in detail is something that we expect from a director of the caliber of Sudhir Mishra. He leaves no stones unturned when it comes to his characters in the film. Once you are done watching the movie you will definitely recollect all the characters in the film along with their traits in the film.

It takes some time to have a handle on what exactly is happening as the director introduces his numerous characters and their relevant tracks. But it's the intricacy that makes the film out of the ordinary and charming. Sudhir accurately handles the romantic tracks and the thrilling portions. Although there's a lot of cuss words in the film but it’s the scripts demand and it gels quite well with the goes with the local milieu.

Arunoday is someone people might not know as his previous film Aisha didn’t do well at the box office. Yes, he played a cameo in Aisha but the role was at ease an unmemorable attempt, but what surprises is Arunoday under the guidance of Sudhir Mishra has done a terrific job. The young, robust, charming actor has done total justice to his character which he plays of a tough gangster in the film. Irrfan Khan who plays a charter accountant in the film gets full marks for his role. We all know what a class act he is. His expressions, dialogues, mannerism, make this film worth a watch. Chitrangda Singh and Aditi Rao Hydari look beautiful on screen. Chitrangda has already worked with Sudhir Mishra before and has done a commendable job earlier too. She is really soaring up the ladder, It aint long when we see this stunning dusky actress contest the top spot in the actress category.

On the whole Yeh Saali Zindagi is a rough n tough material, guns n roses love story with violence. Bollywood seriously needs more of movies of such kind. Do yourself a favor and watch it.

Franz Liszt 200 Years: The Greatest Pianist In History?

Franz Liszt 200 Years: The Greatest Pianist In History?

By: David Warn

Franz Liszt (1811-1886) was the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. He also had a great influence in shaping the western musical canon.

With his assistance, new composers such as Berlioz and Wagner became famous. He also promoted past virtuosos, such as Beethoven, Bach, Handel and Schubert.

In his compositions, he developed a totally unique piano technique, made unheard of experiments in harmony, and invented the symphonic poem. Liszt was born in Hungary but went to Vienna when he was a child. There he studied with Czerny and Salieri and met Beethoven and Schubert.

He settled in Paris while he was still a teenager. He soon became a prominent figure in society, mainly due to his talent at the piano, but also due to his various romantic escapades, which were the subject of a great deal of gossip. At this time, Liszt became familiar with several musical contemporaries like Alkan, Berlioz, Chopin, and others. During these early years, one of the most critical events was his attendance at the concerts of Niccoló Paganini, the diabolical violinist.

Near the end of 1832, Liszt met Countess Marie d’Agoult, and they became lovers; however, she was already married so the couple escaped scandal and eloped in Switzerland. The relationship continued for 12 years and produced three children. Liszt's daughter, Cosima, eventually married Richard Wagner.

Between 1839 and 1847, Liszt enjoyed a virtuoso career second to none in the history of performance. He was the first to commit an entire program to memory and play it; the first to play all the keyboard pieces that were in existence at the time, from Bach to Chopin; the first to always place the piano at right angles to the stage, enabling the open lid to reflect the sound throughout the concert hall; and the first to tour Europe in its entirety. But he stopped doing concerts when he was 35, at which time his new lover, Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, urged him to spend his time composing. Liszt settled in Weimar where he wrote some of his most important masterpieces, such as the Faust Symphony, the Symphonic Poems, and the two piano concerti.

During what was known as the War of the Romantics, he supported his son-in-law, Wagner, and the futuristic school of Weimar against the more conservative Leipzig school, represented by the likes of Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann.

Liszt settled on a somewhat permanent basis in Rome in approximately 1860. There he took minor orders and became Abbé Liszt. Here he mainly composed music with a religious theme. In the years immediately preceding his death, he no longer utilized the virtuoso style, favoring instead a bleak and introspective approach with atonal qualities.

Will All These “The Walking Dead”’s Fans Wait Till Next Halloween?!

Will All These “The Walking Dead”’s Fans Wait Till Next Halloween?!

By: Marina Janakievska

In actual life apparently no one conceders that so called zombies really exist, but when it’s about entertainment, these beings entirely hold attention if is about zombie games, motion picture adaptations, zombie comics, or Halloween’s disguises. Last event that would defend this reality is the American TV show called “The walking dead”, whose first season has completed last week, and got the highest ratings of any basic cable show, of all times.

This show had its first showing on the AMC network on October 31, 2010 with a 70-minute first showing episode and today AMC and the producers are apparently repenting because it went for only six weeks. The point is that the medium number of spectators of this TV show was 3,5 millions and the anticipation for the season finale collected six million spectators, agreeing to the network. With this it got the highest valuation of any basic cable show, of all times, but it’s too crucial that the TV show was followed from the all-crucial 18-49 demographic. The ultimate episode of “Hannah Montana” had 10.7 million spectators but its public is under 18 years old, some final episodes of “The Sopranos” had about 13 million spectators but agreeing to all specifications, “Walking dead” is the greater followed drama TV show in principal cable history in the demographic.

“The Walking Dead” is set up on the comic book TV show with the alike heading, constituted by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard, and broadcasted by Image Comics. It was adapted for TV by Frank Darabont and the capital players includes Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal and Sarah Wayne Callies.

It’s about post – apocalyptic horror fiction that succeeds a small gang of survivors. They go round the ruined United States, trying to find for a new home, seeking to break away from the stumbling group of the undead. The capital character, Rick Grimes, who was a sheriff’s assistant before the zombie aggression, directs this gang that faces unbelievable things. From one side are the zombies but on the other side here are the massy leavings of suffering human masses. All the occurrences and the battle to remain alive pressures them to the very edge of lucidity. Along with the adventure there is a big human drama, treating difficult interpersonal relationships, that puts the show into more of an intellectual thriller type than an action adventure. There are some unambiguous scenes with blood and killing, but for the greater part the show is little about the zombies chasing brains and more about the individuals and their mental battles, battling with the probability that they might be the last few people on Earth.

The only suspicious thing is that the first season completed so not completed, leaving many open questions, and the audience needs to wait till next Halloween to see the new season…

Audio Visual Installation

Posted by admin on 23rd, 2011

Audio Visual Installation

By: Kathryn Dawson

Audio visual installation at an event venue could be difficult, especially if you have a limited budget. However, it is not a wise idea to compromise with quality, as this is what the success of your event depends greatly on. There are ways in which you can lower your cost without compromising on quality.

Tips to Lowering Your Audio Visual Installation Costs

Following are a few tips to help you impress your clients.

• Consult experts: AV systems on hire are the best choice if you are planning on containing costs. Consult experts about your situation. Rentals that cater to small budgets will definitely have something that fits within your budget.

• Be choosy: A large budget gives you the luxury of hiring professionals to take care of all details of the audio visual installation and operation. When on a tight budget, identify what you can do without.

• PA system options: If you have a band playing at your event, you need to know details of the equipment in their possession already and what else you need to get to complete the setup. The band could have brought its own PA system, but you may still have to provide for the audio visual installation at the event site.

• Knowing the event to install the lighting: The event management company needs to be clear about whether your event requires specialised lighting. A proper stage lighting rig could be expensive in contrast to automatic lighting like dizzies which are cheaper and easier to use. They just need you to press the switch once they are set up.

• Projectors for cheap display of audio visuals: Projectors rigged to a DVD player are perhaps the cheapest way to display quality audio visual images.

• Use a PA system: Find out if the venue you are using for your event has a PA system. If they do, use it for the background music as well as live bands and any other sound requirement at the event.

• Choose a playlist over a DJ: An unfortunate choice to make. While a DJ is any day a better option, given he/she can tweak the music to the mood of the audience, play list is the option for you when you are on a tight budget.

What You Should Know About Audio Visual Installation

While your budget may be pulling you in all directions, what you should be looking at is value for money rather than a pure minimisation of costs. For this, it is essential that you understand the four fundamental factors that you need to get right for any audio visual installation.

The first of these is clarity, which is critical for audio visual presentations. You can cut costs on audio visual installation by not hiring technicians, but it is well worth spending a little more on good AV systems in this category. The second factor is simplicity. Make sure that the AV equipment is easy to operate. The third is reliability. Look up reviews of the system that you are considering to avoid losing connection during the event. The fourth factor is realism. You need to ensure that the overall effect created by the audio visual installation is that of people participating together and feeling no barriers even if they are separated by distance.

Planning any event is not easy and you can find an event management company even on a small budget. Smart thinking and a good understanding of your needs will help you the most in this matter. The ultimate aim is to hire AV systems and get technical support without emptying your coffers or sacrificing the success of your event.
