noup the tirck is the guitar, you ca use a pedal, yes true,but whit a scalloped fret board you reach that efect whit out the pedal

he doesnt use a volume pedal or manipulate the volume pot with his pinky..
He uses a guitar effects processor (e.g Boss gt 10) and you can make your guitar sound like a violin and fade in and you can pretty much do what you want with it and get delay! hope this helps
