@waddledoo812: Minuets, Berceuses and sonatinas are all pieces. They are not songs. A song is sung. However, when we say “piece” the implication is usually instrumental. But I believe you can call a song a piece. You cannot call anything played on an instrument a song because a song has words. None of the aforementioned forms that you stated have words!!!

Genius never went under a more obvious guise.

Thank you for elucidating the types of musical pieces, but I still must provide the question: What about minuets? And berceuses? And sonatinas? And any others that I missed?

    13. Emerson

@xiaonoobiexd: @MyExGirlf : An Etude is work or study devoted to the development of technique, but it also has artistic worth. A sonata is an instrumental work for one or two instruments in three or four movements. A piece can be vocal or instrumental with some definate or indefinate form. A song is just a vocal work. You should not call an instrumental work a song. But you can call any musical work a piece.

Etudes, sonatas, barcarolles, mazurkas, etc… those are types of pieces, following a certain shape.

Op. and no. are numeric indications. An op. is usually a series, and the no. is the number of the piece within that series, if you put it simple.
