BBC Horizon - Genie (deprived girl) Part 1

This is from a 1994 documentary about the case of a thirteen-year-old girl found in Temple City, Los Angeles county, having been deprived of language, or any parental care, for 12 years. There was a feature film about the case, called Mockingbird Don’t Sing’. Genie was born around 1957, and so would be about 50 years old today.
technically she is a prived child as deprieved meens losing something like in this case the attachment to the parent, but she never made this attachment due to the isolation which occured so it should be studied as privation and not deprivation.

wen she was 1 she was learning to speak, but was always slurring her words so they took her to thier doctor and he said she could be mildly retarded. the dad fort she was fully mentally challenged and locked her away. shocking isnt it.

i red about her story on wikipedia…she really had a terrible life
our foster care system is shameful really
she had alot of positive growth after a few years, but due to poor foster homes (6 her whole life) she continued being mute and scared of communicating.
we should all learn from her story and never make a mistake like this again

Hardlineatheist, you are clever to see Dawkins is a fool with his intelligence.
Atheists are honest in their search for Truth, I was atheist myself.
I can understand a dislike of christians, too many project their Pride, spiritual Pride is just as deadly as intellectual Pride (Dawkins).
Keep seeking, but know, in the end the only evidence anyone finds, their real truth, can only be found within, its never objective proof. There is no objective proof of the subjective.

I think it was even more disgusting to put her into the foster care system and forget about her when she did not meet the needs of the grant committee. No one should have been allowed to touch her until a permanent situation that was safe for her was found.

You can only blame the father for being a domineering moron.
Apparently the brother was sometimes forced to watch the abuse, but was never allowed to communicate with Genie at all. And the father told her mother that they would get her help if she survived to be 12. He didnt though, he kept her locked up.
It disgusts me that that someone can do this and call themselves human.
