Andre Watts, “Revolutionary” Etude
Posted by on 25th, 2009
Andre Watts from a Mr. Rogers episode in the 1980s playing Chopin’s “Revolutionary” Etude, Op.10#12. This is one of the best performances of this etude I’ve heard, and to see the fluidity of Watts’ left hand leaves me speechless.

i am sick of all of you people showing off on your comments…it seems that everyone here plays it perfectly and none is older than 15…what is your secret?? you masturbate with your left hands?? Get the hell out of here,”prodigies”…

Hi there, im 17 and i play piano since my 5th birthday
im practicing this piece for one week now and I think that this is the most difficult piece for piano right after the Mephisto Walz
I dunno how long Andre practiced it, but i think very long
after one week i can play it slowly/fluently untill the 24th second, and i had to practice about 3hrs a day for it
but be careful, after 2 hrs your fingers will start to hurt^^

Haha, such a legendary performance and it was recorded on Mr. Rogers! Now that was quality programming… nothing like the awful teletubies they make kids suffer through nowadays

Damn!
My left hand always gives out when I try to play this piece.
Anybody have any tips on how I can train it to endure more?
Amazing playing btw!

mr. rogers was never in a war you dweebs, he was a disarmingly geeky vegetarian that had some stupid myth invented about how he was a US marine by tv-fed morons who need to reconcile a childhood watching GI joe and mr. rogers

Well i didnt mean to start our own war (ha ha) but i was simply stating that he killed people, which is, as you pointed out commonplace in wars.

Yup and that rolling chord at 1:25 is pretty dramatic.

1:20 The piece really starts to get emotional, imo. Look at his hand fly off.
